BRENT'S DIARY

July 9th, 2005

Thanks for checking out the diary.  Once again things have been a little different in the RM camp these past few weeks.

July 4th weekend was a little different for the band. I had made the decision earlier in the week not to play the gigs for the weekend if my wife had not had our baby.  With a due date of June 30th, I didn't want to miss ANY part of the experience by being an hour plus away from the hospital, so I chose to pass on doing the gigs.  Turns out, I probably could have done them as the baby wasn't born until the morning of July 4th.  A baby girl named Hailey. 7lbs 7oz and already ruling our house with two little fists and a very loud cry!

The band said things were a little bit strange with my parts missing, but my guess in nobody noticed much and they were just being polite.  Hopefully that will be the last event of the summer where members of the band are missing!

July 8th was the show I was most looking forward to this summer.  The opportunity to open for Whitesnake at Summerfest was in my mind the coolest gig to date.  Now, we've shared the stage with some legendary performers, from Peter Frampton to The Outfield, but it's never been a band who I owned every release from and followed closely throughout their career.  None of the original members were present except for David Coverdale, but the other musicians in the band were in other successfull bands that most of us were fans of at one time or another.  A particular highlight for me was being approached by both guitar players, Reb Beach formerly of Winger and later Dokken, and Doug Aldrich formerly of Lion, Hurricane, Bad Moon Rising and Dio.  Both were very complimentary of our band and were curious how Dave and I got our guitar sounds.  Keyboardist Timothy Drurry and Bassist Uriah Duffy were also very complimentary to us and were very approachable guys.  Tommy Aldridge was polite, but kind of short in conversation and David Coverdale didn't come off of his bus until show time.  Disappointing, yes. But, he is a rockstar and has an English accent so.......

THE SHOW

We decided to mix up a set list that was leaning on the edgier stuff in our sets to appease the ears of the Whitesnake crowd.

The response was fantastic and the energy was there from the start.  Alot of the RM fans made their presence known and judging by the volume of response given when Bobby asked how many RM people were in attendance, there were more than we could have anticipated. In my opinion, I think it was a solid performance on our part and I think some of the people who hadn't seen RM in a long time were surprised to hear some of the stuff we played.  If you were there, thank you! If you weren't, you missed a really good time and a kickass Whitesnake performance.

Thanks for reading,

See ya soon!
