BRENT'S DIARY

November 28, 2004

Happy Holidays and welcome to latest diary installment. I'll be recapping two gigs on this one.

Last Saturday we headed out to Wind Lake for our first time back to Kelly's Bleachers since April of this year.  Many in the crowd seemed to be "wives behaving badly" getting out while the husbands ventured out to the woods for the first weekend of deer hunting season.  We had some very interesting and suggestive dancing taking place at the front of the stage.  At one point some of couldn’t play or sing due to the distractions unfolding before our eyes. Good times indeed.  The only problem we were faced with on this night was the tripping of some circuit breakers that caused our lights, PA system, and backline gear to go down on several occasions.  It made for a few awkward moments, but nobody really seemed to care.  Thanks to the staff at Kelly's for the hospitality - especially Julie the bartender and her rubber gloves. (don’t ask...but it’s not ANYTHING like your probably thinking)

This past weekend, we made our downtown Milwaukee debut at the Milwaukee Ale house.  The only time RM or LU play in the "city" is at Summerfest.  We had heard some horror stories about the Ale House.  People had told us the stage was VERY small (a new stage has been built which features a little more room), the crowds tend to leave early, etc....blah, blah, blah.  We weren’t sure what to expect.  We also weren’t sure how the music we play would go over when not playing in the suburbs.

We were pleasantly surprised to see a line out the door to the club at 9:30 pm.  Friends told us they had waited in line for up to 25 minutes to get in.  The only unfortunate aspect of this evening was that there were literally so many people packed in that it made getting to a lavatory a strategically planned event that took a combination of physics and geometry to map an efficient path to.  We had a blast, heard many positive remarks from first timers and staff, saw lots of old friends and met a ton of new people.  Thanks to everyone who came down and helped to fill the room beyond belief on our first time in.  I believe we will back to the Ale House on a regular basis after that one.

This coming Saturday, we make our Kenosha debut of Light Up at the Brat Stop.  This will be the first indoor show in that area and should be a cool night. We will be performing all of the Grand Illusion album in its entirety, taking a short break, then coming back out the play the rest of the usual LU material.  This is a huge room and we need all the help we can get to make a strong first impression.  Please come out and bring your friends, even if they don’t like Styx!

Hope to see you this weekend!

Brent
