BRENT'S DIARY

Saturday Dec 18th marked the return of Light Up to Rooters in Waukesha . It also marked the start of the winter season as far as temperatures and snow are concerned. With the thermometer dipping into the negatives and snow in the sky, we all wondered how the turnout would be for the night. Most of us dealt with poor road conditions on the way to sound check and assumed it would get worse before it got better.

Too our surprise, the crowd was a respectable number of around 450. Not quite as good as we’d hoped, but better than we anticipated given the circumstances. With people gathered around the doors before they opened others also must have suspected a packed house.

In regards to the show, I must point out that I think this is the first Light Up show EVER that actually started almost exactly on time. I wouldn’t get used to it, but it was a nice change of pace.

We repeated the same set as we had done it at the Brat Stop a few weeks before. The Grand Illusion album, followed by the rest of the usual Styx stuff and then followed by a short RM set. It seemed to go over well, but many in the crowd didn’t understand why we had done so many “new” and unfamiliar Styx songs. It was actually only 3 different songs, but if you don’t own the album I can see the confusion.

The Cutty Black cage dancers gave their best shot at grinding to Styx music.I talked to them between sets and we joked about it. One of them made the comment that Styx may be the least sexual music in the world. She just may be correct!

We’ll be doing another Light Up show in February at Optyx in Racine, but before that we’ll again be at Rooters on January 8th doing the RM show. This will be former RM/LU bass player Cary Schultz ’s farewell performance and we are predicting decadence.  Rumor has it we’ll also be celebrating a band member birthday…

Come out and have some drinks and a good time.  I know we will.

Happy New Year!

Brent
